1500 Mangrove Seedlings Handed Over to Cooperator Families for Planting

The Rotary Club of Roxas handed over 1500 Piyapi seedlings to the six cooperator families of the Mangrove Greenbelt Project last March 16, 2008. This was done after the 1.7 hectare deforested mangrove area was subdivided among the cooperator families last week. Each family is expected to plant and take care of 500 mangroves each month. The mangrove seedlings were bought from the Municipal Agriculture Office of President Roxas, Capiz through the initiatives of Rotarian and US Peace Corp Volunteer Anna Moyer, a member of the RC Roxas Special Committee on Environment.

With the beginning of the summer season, the special committee on

Environment is expecting a kick-off for the Mangrove Greenbelt Project which had previous unsuccessful attempts at replanting due to the stormy seasons.

The Mangrove Greenbelt Project is President Rommel Lastimoso’s flagship project which will hopefully bag an award as outstanding community project in this year’s District Conference.
