RC Roxas Met With Roxas City Business Sector to Discuss Prospects of Ecotourism Projects

RC Roxas participated in the joint meeting of the Roxas Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and the Capiz Halaran Chamber of Commerce on October 4, 2007 at the Red Sun Restaurant, Gaisano Arcade. The meeting was conducted to discuss the prospects of boosting the city’s tourism industry by capitalizing on eco-tourism. The meeting was also participated in by members of the local government units headed by Mayor Dante Bermejo of Panay, Provincial Administrator Zoe Herrera, City Tourism Officer Al Tesoro, Mr. Vincent Bermejo representing the City Mayor.

Rotarian Powell del Rosario, chair for special projects on environment and president of Save Olotayan Foundation, Inc., discussed the ongoing Mangrove Greenbelt Project at Barangay Punta Cogon and the proposed Olotayan Environmental Tour Package. He, together with Rotarian Ana Moyer and Secretary Pip Acepcion, emphasized the importance of mangrove reforestation not only as a future tourist destination but also as a source of livelihood and a means to preserve marine life.

Rotarian Chad del Rosario also related the importance of defining the City border with neighboring Masbate since areas such as Sapatos Gamay, an uninhabited island about 45 minutes off Olotayan island, has excellent area for diving. No less than the District Governor of RI District 3850 Renier “Prince” Gerochi, inducted 5 all-female new members to the Rotary Club of Roxas Membership. They were Ana Moyer, Che-che Lastimoso, Erin Dowe, Louvelle Licanto and Leah del Rosario.

The induction was held at the MVW Restaurant during the Joint District Governor’s Address to the 3 Rotary Clubs of Roxas City last September 21. With the addition of the all-female new members to the club, it seems that girl-power is definitely catching up in the club membership. This makes the club’s female member total to eight, which is about one-third of the total club membership.

The Rotary Club of Roxas 44th Induction and Turn-Over Ceremonies

Collective corporate responsibility was the challenge of guest speaker and fellow Rotarian Capiz Provincial Governor Vic Tanco to the Rotary Club of Roxas, during the 44th Induction and Turn-Over Ceremonies held at the Hall of Governor's last July 21, 2007. It was a fitting challenge to the new batch of young and promising officers for RY 2007-2008, headed by President Rommel Lastimoso.
The affair was a mixture of solemnity and hip as most of the members stayed on `til the wee hours of the morning dancing and jamming with the acoustic band. District Secretary Biboy Jocson was witness to the occasion who himself partied and danced with fellow rotarians.
Upon entering the venue, guest were treated to free samples of Andros...keeping with our statement that the club is ON THE RISE! Very apt to the atmosphere were the ballet performances of select stdents of Stages, a ballet school run by rotarian first lady Che-Che Lastimoso. Rotarian Spouse Dr. Rommel Mosquete and Rotarian Dr. Jo Mosquete sang the Doxology with the latter performing a surprise song number with past president Mark Ortiz.
The club is definitely on the rise with the new youthful additions to the organization, Mr. Blue Tanco, Mr. Jessie John Cabuang, Mr. Ninoy Bermudez and Mr. Jerome Lames, and the launching of "Ang Patiyog", the online bulletin of the Rotary Club of Roxas.
