PESETS Held at Iloilo Business Hotel

The President Elect and Secretary Elect Training Seminar (PESETS) was held recently at the Iloilo Business Hotel last March 8, 2008 for the 54 presidents-elect and secretaries-elect of District 3850 Zones 1 to 11.

The training seminar started at 9 AM and ended around 6 PM. It was a full day of Rotary information with emphasis on the priorities and thrust of the RI presidency.

Ms. Dele Riley, the Rotary International coordinator for Club and District support for South Pacific and Philippines Offices in PARAMATTA Australia was present to talk on the different matters with regards to club adm

Several Past District Governors were also present to discuss on goal settings and the different avenues of service.

A “heated” discussion arose during the discussions on the service projects by PP Louie Gonzaga of RC Iloilo-South since he presented literacy programs which representatives from RC Roxas, PE Pip and SE Raoul and PE Megs of RC Kalibo thought were totally divergent from the thrust of RI PE DK Lee.

The incoming RI President specifically stressed his intentions of reducing child mortality through health, water, and literacy as the focus of his presidency. Thus, objections were raised regarding the district’s direction with regards to literacy since “giving books and computers to school children” will definitely not reduce child mortality. Instead, it was proposed that the literacy part should be directed to the parents and caregivers.

RC Roxas has also made its presence felt with PE Pip winning the contest on the most numbers of incoming presidents met and interviewed.

A loud applause was heard when PE Pip presented the worksheet on goal-setting as well as the secret to achieving an 83.3% membership increase for the year. However, this was shortlived when RC Dumangas announced a 140% increase in their membership for the current year.

The PESETS was hosted by RC Iloilo-South.

Fellowship followed at Freshka sponsored by IDG Emma Nava and after dinner coffee was sponsored by PDG Toto Locsin at nearby Blue Jay Café.
