RC Roxas to Meet with Roxas City Business Sector to Pursue Environmental Project

The Rotary Club of Roxas is set to meet with the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce on Thursday to discuss details of the Mangrove Reforestation Project and plans for reviving the Olotayan Island as an attractive tourist destination in the city.

The Mangrove Greenbelt Project in Barangay Punta Cogon was launched 5 months ago in coordination with the City Agriculture, the Philippine Academy of Family Physicians and the Save Olotayan Foundation. To date, it has maintained around 3000 seedlings in the nursery and will be replanted after the typhoon season.

Tour Packages to “revisit” Olotayan Island were discussed in a meeting with the Save Olotayan Foundation and the residents of the Island last week. It is envisioned not just to bring tourists in but also to provide the local residents livelihood options other than fishing.

Both the Mangrove Greenbelt Project and the Save Olotayan Foundation are chaired by Rotarian Powell del Rosario.
